Aussie Stock Market Update, for January 24, 2025.
Posted 26 January by Dr Jo

Best week for the ASX since December, 2024
The Australian share market delivered its best week since December 2024, with the ASX 200 climbing 1.2% to close at 8,408.9 points, marking three consecutive weeks of gains. Boosted by discretionary stocks like Wesfarmers, up 3.6%, the rally was supported by hopes of an RBA rate cut, with traders pricing in at a 78% chance.
With February's reporting season approaching, staying alert will be crucial as company earnings could drive market volatility. Pay attention to how results align with expectations, especially amid shifting interest rate dynamics. Sharp moves in key sectors or stocks could present opportunities and risks for active investors and traders.
Next week’s inflation data will be pivotal, potentially solidifying expectations for lower rates and bolstering consumer spending further.
